Learn more about 3D Printing aka AM (Additive Manufacturing):

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), refers to processes used to create a three-dimensional object[1]in which layers of material are formed under computer control to create an object.[2] Objects can be of almost any shape or geometry and are produced using digital model data from a 3D model or another electronic data source such as an Additive Manufacturing File (AMF) file. STL is one of the most common file types that 3D printers can read. Thus, unlike material removed from a stock in the conventional machining process, 3D printing or AM builds a three-dimensional object from computer-aided design (CAD) model or AMF file by successively adding material layer by layer.[3]

Laser Cutting | Delrin

Laser cutting Delrin

DuPont™ Delrin® acetal homopolymer resin is a highly-crystalline engineering thermoplastic.

Our Laser Fume Extractors generally come with deep bed chemical filtration (we have one that’s 8” deep, one that’s 15” deep) loaded with our general purpose chemical media blend. For most applications the general purpose blend would suffice.

If you’re cutting materials such as Delrin you will most likely require a special combination of chemical filtration with a mix of chemical media blend to be effective in dealing with the fumes produced in the process of cutting Delrin.

We suggest you let us know what materials you work with in order for us to provide you the best recommendation for your air filtration, fume extraction needs.

Effective laser fume extraction is critical to laser systems due to the possibility of toxic, carcinogenic corrosive or extremely odorous contaminants that can be generated.  All of our laser fume extractors feature multi-stage filtration incorporating a 2” Pre-filter section, 2” Certified HEPA filter and deep bed activated carbon modules.

Laser Cutting | Safety concerns when cutting MDF | Laser Fumes Smoke Extractor

Safety concerns when cutting MDF

When MDF is cut, a large quantity of dust particles are released into the air. It is important that a respirator is worn and that the material is cut in a controlled and ventilated environment. It is a good practice to seal the exposed edges to limit the emissions from the binders contained in this material.

Formaldehyde resins are commonly used to bind together the fibres in MDF, and testing has consistently revealed that MDF products emit free formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds that pose health risks at concentrations considered unsafe, for at least several months after manufacture.[7][8][9]

Be forewarned – cutting MDF and similar wood products consume particulate filters quickly

Unfortunately certain woods such as MDF (containing glues, adhesives , resin) will consume filters quickly.

If you work with these materials lots we suggest getting the PF400 – http://www.airpurifiers-r-us.com/pf400-laser-fume-extractor-prefilter-section.html – the pre-filter bag section is incorporated into the CSA600 series.

PF400S Pre-Filter Section

  • Multiple high density layered antimicrobial filter bags x 2
  • Easy to change
  • Large holding capacity
  • Self contained pre-filter section can be combined with any existing system that requires additional particulate filtration
  • Can also snap onto existing SPH400 system

Resins in wood

The resin could be in the wood itself or if many layers are bonded together the bonding adhesives / glues could be the culprit. Essentially the laser vaporizes the adhesive or resinous material which then condenses / sticks and clogs the filters rapidly.

Sometimes it is the natural resins within a particular wood.

When this type of material is lasered the fumes can sometimes block the pores of the filters. This will not be unique to Quatro’s filters but to any unit that contains particulate / HEPA filters.

Installing a pre-filter section may prolong the life of the HEPA filters. It all depends on what type of debris is being generated in the particular application.

For those unfortunate to have an application where HEPA filters are being blinded quickly we have two items we can offer:
1) The PF400A pre-filter section $653.00
2) Part # AG189 (box of 6 HEPA’s for the price of 3) ……… $351.00 USD
(Prices subject to change without prior notice)

Cooking Kitchen Smoke Odor Air Filtration Air Cleaner

Cooking Kitchen Smoke Odor Air Filtration Air Cleaner

Hey cooking fans! We all have someone at home who loves watching the Food Channel and then experimenting with, trying out the new recipes picked up from the cooking show.

Some odors we can tolerate the others maybe not. Some odors linger on for days.

For some, we don’t want the odors to migrate to the living room and get soaked into the fabric of our curtains, carpeting, furniture upholstery, etc.

You may have visitors, friends, guests coming in for lunch or dinner and you want to reduce the smell of the fish that’s cooking in the oven or maybe get rid of the fishy aroma as much as possible.

We have room, portable, air filtration systems, air cleaners, air purifiers that can help you reduce cooking odors, if not completely remove them completely.

These units usually come, in addition to the HEPA filter (will help filter out the smoke, smoke haze), with an activated charcoal, activated carbon filter, either a 2″ or 4″ activated carbon, activated charcoal filter. Oh yeah, to economize on your activated charcoal, activated carbon filter changes and replacement, these canisters we use with our units can be simply refilled. Good for the environment, don’t you think? Continue reading
